Manchester United Set to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Major Signing for United
Schüller, who has six months remaining on her contract, is known as a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a major signing for the Women’s Super League side.
Her exit from Munich has been anticipated after she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top strikers. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.
Reliable Goal Threat to Boost United's Attack
The experienced striker's signing should represent a significant boost to the team's forward line. She has been highly consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford
Securing the German international coincides with a period when United seem to be gathering momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen further business:
- The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a club official commented: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
