Jurgen Klopp says rejoining to lead Liverpool is theoretically possible.
The German coach, who stepped down from Anfield in 2024, indicated that a future comeback remains something that could happen. Klopp, post a game-changing nine-season tenure that included a European Cup triumph and the Premier League crown for three decades, now holds roles overseeing worldwide football with the Red Bull group and providing guidance for the DFL.
Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments
The club claimed the Premier League last season, but many fans who adore the manager would be thrilled by the notion that he might come back one day. Speaking candidly, he told his interviewer: “I stated I won't manage any other side in England. Which implies should it be the Reds...yeah. It's plausible.”
“At 58 years old, that means I might decide down the line, it's uncertain. Do I have to make the decision today? In that case, I'd stay away. Luckily, no such pressure exists. I can just see how things unfold.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
When asked about which situations would need to occur to draw him back to the dugout, he confessed he isn't eager for a comeback. “I don’t even know exactly, I love what I do right now,” he commented. “I don’t miss coaching; I don’t miss standing under bad weather for two-and-a-half or three hours; I'm glad to skip media briefings multiple times weekly or doing numerous chats a week.
“The locker room isn't missed as a dressing room, yet sharing a meal with the players talking freely, is pleasant. With many victories thus frequently positive atmosphere at the club. I still have Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh in my ear to illustrate.”
Commending Arne Slot
He commended for his successor, acknowledging his role for the tweaks that took the title last campaign. They've been defeated four consecutive matches in all competitions after a summer spending spree, though he denied the notion that it might signal the start of a downward turn.
“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker such as Wirtz, critics will regret if spoken against. He’s an incredible talent. Ekitike, excellent performer. It’s a really good balanced team. No need for concern about Liverpool, they'll bounce back.”
Heartfelt Words for Diogo Jota
Klopp also spoke emotionally on the loss of Jota, a player he signed during his tenure, along with the consequences on Liverpool. Jota lost his life in a car crash with his brother this past summer.
“Who can fill the void of a person like him? It’s not about the player himself, his personality mattered. It's hard to picture the team environment absent his presence. I still cannot speak properly regarding this. A devastating blow for the entire squad also. Not a single person would cite it to justify results but it is the situation. Entering the changing area where he was omnipresent. Handling this individually is challenging. Unbearable.”
