Chiefs Acknowledge Alleged Abuse Allegations Involving Wide Receiver Rashee Rice
The Kansas City Chiefs released a comment on Wednesday evening indicating they are aware of domestic violence allegations made public in online accounts by a former girlfriend of player the athlete and were in contact with the NFL.
The organization omitted the name of Rice by name in their statement and said they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Allegations Shared on Social Media
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who also did not mention the athlete by name, posted a series of photos on Instagram that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. Jones stated the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has kids with Rice, whom the team selected in the second round.
Police Reports Currently Unavailable
No police reports were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.
Player's Recent Legal Issues
The receiver missed the initial part of this season following an NFL suspension for his involvement in instigating a crash on a Texas roadway that left multiple people injured. He was given a month of incarceration and probationary supervision after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.
Statistically, he concluded the season with 53 catches for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs went 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
